Lubaba Mekonnen, Coffee Farmer, 45
Coffee Is Bringing Better Food and a Better Life in Ethiopia
Lubaba, from Ethiopia’s Jimma zone, joined our program in 2012. Facing low yields and market access issues, she received training in sustainable farming and cooperative exports through Heleph. By 2020, her coffee income tripled, allowing her to hire help and improve her home. Today, she exports premium beans globally, supporting her family and community.

Ethiopians Brew Success as Coffee and Cash Pile Up Thanks to Transformational Sustainable Forestry Program
Girma, in the Bale Eco-region, protects the Harena Forest while harvesting wild coffee. Through Heleph’s export partnerships with Japanese buyers, his cooperative sold 19,200kg in 2024, earning him ETB 544,624 net. This income funded better education for his children and eco-friendly practices, boosting local economy.
